I just ended my favorite type of housesit – yard birds. Specifically chickens and ducks. I’m not sure if I have a preference of one over the other, but the combination of both is just marvelous. Ducks are always cantankerous, mostly because of the register of their quack/honk, but also because of the way they strut and waddle and basically just make the yard their own.

Chickens are so entertaining to watch, scratching the dirt and fluffing themselves and pecking the sunflower holding can because they KNOW their favorite snack is inside that can and they KNOW that eventually I will succumb and give them some (I was planning to anyway, honest!).

When I first started this housesitting lifestyle I’ve been living this summer, I felt sure I would want all of the dog sits. Dogs, after all, are amazing and wonderful and full of love and snuggles and happiness and I wanted some of that to be absorbed by me and to live vicariously or superficially in the life of a dog owner. But after doing dog sits, I realized that I don’t actually want to do that all that often. I don’t have a dog because, among other things, I live a life that has me flitting constantly and at a whim. So having a dog would be purely selfish (which I am), but in a way that would give disservice to the dog (I am not THAT selfish).

So, cats and yardbirds it is. (I REFUSE to do housebirds. No thank you, no way.)

I didn’t explore Eugene like I had planned, mostly because my social anxiety decided to come out in strong fashion, so I stayed at the home and worked on my crochet project, which is now done except for sewing in the tails and I am so excited about it! Please help me remember that I do not want to make another blanket in the foreseeable future. Even though they’re so satisfying when they’re finished. And pretty and cozy.

But so are hats and shawls and plushy animals.

Now I have a few housesits in Portland, one in N and one in SE. One has a dog and two cats (I know, I know, but it’s a family one), and the other just has a cat. Sending out good energy vibes that they are smooth and seamless, and full of less anxiety.

Plus it’s September, so cooler weather means calmer me, usually, so that’s nice at least. 🙂 xxBrenda
